Latest News VENEZUELA TOPS OFF ARUBA
Oranjestad---The new pool room in Tanki Leendert was definitely to small for this event. Friday night over 50 people were VIP seated and another 50 had to watch via TV screens outside. A strong squad from Venezuela showed up full of confidence. Friday it was 10-ball WPA rules and Aaron The Baron send Aruba up 1-0 over Richard Manriquez 7-4, but from there it was all Venezuela with Diego Gomez beating Jorge Petrocchi 7-5, Gregorio Sanchez beating Ditto Acosta 7-2 and Victor Cucuzza beating Ryan Rampersaud 7-3 for a 3-1 lead. Richard Wolff brought Aruba back with a Victory over Luis Miguel Sanchez 7-6 and Allan van Aanholt did the same with a victory over Alexander Garcia 7-5 for the night to end at 3 a piece. Saturday it was turned to 9-ball, and Acosta was beaten again this time by Garcia 7-2, but Aaron repeat a 7-4 win over Manriquez and the combination Acosta / Franken took down Gomez / Gregorio Sanchez 7-5 for Aruba ta go up 5-4. From here it was only down hill for the Aruba squad, with Wolff going down against Luis Sanchez 7-3, Van Aanholt losing to Gregorio Sanchez 7-4, the couple Wolff/Van Aanholt also lost to Garcia/Sanchez 7-6 to put Aruba in a whole. Master Ryan came out strong from start but lost control and was beaten by Cucuzza 7-5. Jorge had it all in his hands but also give in to the junior Gomez 7-6. In the end Rampersaud / Petrocchi was completely beaten and lost 7-1 to Cucuzza / Manriquez. Sunday it was back to 10-ball in a do or die for Aruba and the six Aruba soldiers came out strong beating the six from Venezuela 7-2 in the team match-up. Next it was D-Gun Acosta that surprised Venezuelan star Gregorio Sanchez 7-1 to bring Aruba at 7-10. Richard The Wolffman looked like he had it under control at 6-3, but some un-characteristic mistakes made him pay with a 7-6 lost to Alexander Garcia, that brought Venezuela over the top. It was a well organized event by WWW.POOLINARUBA.COM with a lot of spectators and good cash circulation. Thanks to BUDWEISER BEER, HOPE CLINIC, BOC GASSES, AMAZONIA RESTAURANT and MARINA PIRATA for their sponsorship. “FINAL COUNTDOWN” ARUBA VS VENEZUELA !!

That set-up many money action between the two countries on the island of Aruba and in Caracas. Again in 2004 on Aruba ground at the 9-Ball Pan-American Grandprix, Richard Wolff meets Johnny Martinez in the finals and again an Aruban Hero rised to the occasion to win the championship. Fifthteen teams from Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao and Trinidad & Tobago visited Curacao for a long week-end. It was a lot of fun, party and for sure a lot of pain on the pool tables. Hut Predators that won the event in 2005 and 2006, lost the finals in 2007 to Maishi Tigers from Curacao. This year these teams took the same route and met each other in the semi-finals at the winner-side. But before that the Hut Predators beat Curacao Warriors 5-0, went with 5-2 over Barracuda from Aruba, and again 5-2 over Biesheuvel from Curacao. Sunday morning the team from Aruba beat Maishi Tigers 5-2 and at night after the Tigers came back from the losers round they were beaten 5-1 in the finals. Hut Predators lifted the trophy for the third time, but for the first time they managed to win two big ones in one year.
